Workshop Description<\/span><\/h6>\n

The Saint John Arts Centre is pleased to have Melissa Kennedy share her expertise in a four-week workshop, Animal Sculpture in Clay. You will be guided through the following: building on an armature a sculpture out of water-based clay; methods of observation; and, one-on-one critiques as you work on your own piece.<\/p>\n

About your Instructor<\/span><\/h6>\n

Melissa Kennedy is a visual artist and art instructor in New Brunswick, Canada. Melissa studied traditional methods of drawing and sculpting at The Florence Academy of Art in Florence, Italy. After her graduation, she remained at the Academy for three years as a principle instructor of drawing, before moving back to Canada.<\/p>\n

Melissa strives to capture and express the beauty and subtlety that exists in nature, by focusing on recreating the accuracy of the feeling through extended observation of a subject. Choosing the medium that best suits the purpose, she works with a variety of materials for both drawing and sculpture, including charcoal, pencil, ink and oil, and water-based clays.<\/p>\n
