She is known for her bold use of colour, humour and whimsy in her designs. Her works have been exhibited across Canada and included twice in Quilt Canada: The National Juried Show.\u00a0 Her quilts have been featured in magazines in Canada, the United States, France, the United Kingdom and Australia, as well as on countless websites worldwide.\u00a0 She is the author of <em>Modern Selvage Quilting<\/em> (C&amp;T Publishing, 2016) and <em>Sew a Modern Halloween<\/em> (C&amp;T Publishing, 2017).\u00a0 She often includes the subject of quilting in her fiction writing as well.\u00a0 Her debut children\u2019s book <em>The Little Ghost Who Was a Quilt<\/em> will be published in 2020 by Tundra (Penguin Random House). Riel lives in Quispamsis, New Brunswick with her family.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Artist Statement<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><em>Modern Selvage Quilting<\/em> takes the use of recycled fabric selvages in today\u2019s quilts a step further.<\/p>\n<p>Riel Nason believes that selvage quilts do not have to be made entirely of selvages using traditional blocks.\u00a0 Selvages can also be used as a design element &#8212; as just a small part of a bigger picture.\u00a0 In <em>Modern Selvage Quilting,<\/em> featuring quilts from the book of the same name as well as others, selvages make up only part of the work.\u00a0 This allows a modern look to be achieved while still making wholly original quilts.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Modern Selvage Quilting Artist Biography Riel Nason is a Canadian novelist and textile artist (quilter).
